Applesauce, Sammy & the Zoo!

Over Labor Day weekend Kaitlyn, Mommy & Daddy and her 2 grandmothers went to the Indianapolis Zoo! We had such a great day - there are some more pictures that I will post as soon as I get them! Isn't her zoo outfit adorable?!?

Here are some pictures of Kaitlyn and her buddy "Sammy the Dog" - where ever Kaitlyn goes, Sammy goes!

Kaitlyn has started to eat solids now! She started eating some rice cereal in the evenings and really liked it immediately - she had no issues using a spoon! Then yesterday I introduced her to some home made applesauce - she made some funny faces initially, but after a few bites got used to the texture and taste - then I could not get the spoon into her mouth fast enough! She loves it now! I am making all of Kaitlyn's food which is both fun and healthy! On Kaitlyn's fall menu will be the fruits and veggies of the season - apples, pears, squash, pumpkin & yams! At school now, along with breastmilk, she will start eating cereal in the morning and a fruit or veggie for lunch! She is getting to be such a big girl!!

Here are some pictures from Kaitlyn's bath tonight - as you can see she is practicing her sitting up. All day and night she is playing with her toes and trying to sit up!

Below is a video of Ryan and Kaitlyn practicing her sitting up! She will be doing it on her own very shortly - she has no real interest in rolling over, just sitting up! Sammy appears in the video for a kiss! It is too bad the lighting is so dark as it was a precious moment!

School Pictures and Rice Cereal!

Kaitlyn had a big day today - she had her first official school pictures! Of course she was dressed up in a beautiful pink and white checkered dress with orange and pink smocking in the front. She was adorable and actually stayed clean until picture time! She also had a little pink ribbon in her hair - I am so excited to see them!

Little Miss Kaitlyn has been waking a lot more in the night times for feedings these days - at one point she was sleeping 8-10 hours through the night - but now she has been waking every 3 hours or so again. I think she her appetite has increased and she is hungry, so at 4 1/2 months she had her first bowl of rice cereal! I mixed some of the cereal with breast milk and fed it to her on a blue rubber spoon. She absolutely loved it and had no troubles at all eating from the spoon.

Last night was the first official Bears game of the season so of course Daddy was so excited to have Kaitlyn support his team! We don't have an official Bears outfit for her yet, but she wore orange pajama pants and a little top with an orange bear on it. She also has an official Bears teddy bear so she snuggled with that during the game. Unfortunately, the Bears lost :(

I have some pictures of her Bears outfit and her first official meal that I will share - they are on Ryan's cell phone so I have to wait for him to email them to me!

Fun Pictures!!

Practicing my Sitting!

First day at School

Too cute!

Sleeping Beauty - in Ireland

Posing in a park in Ireland

At Symphony on the Prarie - she loved it!

Video - Kaitlyn's first cry!!

How our little angel has grown! I remember this moment so clearly!!

Where has time gone? Back to work!

It is so hard to believe that little Miss Kaitlyn is 4 1/2 months!!! Over the 4 months she has gotten more beautiful and cuter every single day - it is amazing! She is now laughing and giggling and giving the most beautiful big smiles! It is amazing how a little smile from Kaitlyn can completely make all worries disappear! I don't know where to begin with the last few months, but decided to jot down some of our favorite Kaitlyn moments so that we don't forget this special time in our lives.

- Ever since she was a baby, Kaitlyn has love to kick! You can just lay her down and she will go crazy kicking for 45 minutes (what a work out!). We are convinced she is going to be a dancer, a soccer player or a great swimmer!! Well now she has found her toes - her new favorite toy. She plays with her toes for hours and rolls over onto her side much to her delight! She is also trying really, really hard to sit up these days - she lifts her head and little legs up trying to sit up! She will be sitting before we know it!

- Kaitlyn loves "Sammy the Dog" - she gives a little shout of glee and giggles whenever Sammy is around. Of course, Sammy loves Kaitlyn too and gives her big wet kisses whenever she can sneak one in!

- Kaitlyn loves music much to her mommy's delight! She loves listening to any songs and especially loves her toys that make music (pink elephant and Violet the puppy) . Every night, we sing the "Goodnight Sweetheart" song before she goes to bed (anyone remember that song from Three Amigos?) She absolutely loves it! Mommy also composed a "Naptime" song for Kaitlyn and she loves singing that before naps as well.

- Kaitlyn loves being outside - it doesn't matter what the weather is or where we are, if we are outside, she is a very happy baby!!!

- Kaitlyn loves morning snuggle time with mommy and daddy! We put her to sleep in her crib at night, and she is still waking up 1-2 times a night for a feeding or just to have her pacifier back in her mouth. Anytime she wakes up after 4:00am thought, she comes into the bed with mom and dad which she loves!!

- Kaitlyn loves to be swaddled at night time! She will not sleep any other way! However, recently she has started to break out of her swaddle and I see her in the middle of the night sleeping with her arms and legs all spread out - it is too cute! Ryan and I got sad the other night because she was starting to look like a little girl sleeping rather than a swaddled baby.

Back to work!!! - I am now back to work and although I am happy to be back, I miss Kaitlyn dreadfully!! Last week was my first official week back and boy it was a busy one!!! It was also such an adjustment getting into a routine to get ready for school. I feed Kaitlyn when she wakes up and then she goes back to sleep until 7:30 while mom gets dressed for the day. Then I get her dressed and we head out to school at 7:45am. It is so fun getting her dressed each day as I get to show her off to all the teachers at school. She is going to a really nice nursery school about 15 minutes from our house. The school takes children from 6 weeks to 6 years of age (Senior Kinder garden) so she will be there for a while! There are 7 other babies at the school with Kaitlyn and the teachers in her room are very nice. It was very hard taking her there the first few mornings, but now we have both gotten a little more used to it. So far between my mom, Ryan and I, Kaitlyn has been getting picked up at 3:00pm every day. She is a very social baby and seems to like being around the other kids!! Of course, I am so excited to see her in the evenings and we play, play, play and snuggle until bed time!! At some point, I hope to go on a reduced work load schedule which my company offers - until then, this is our arrangement though and I am happy with it!!

Kaitlyn has school pictures tomorrow - can you believe it?!? Also, she has started to get her first tooth which I just noticed today when I was feeding her!!

Kaitlyn is SO excited!!

Yesterday, June 17th, was a HUGE day in the lift of Kaitlyn!! Her Uncle Bill is no longer in the hospital - and it appears that his chemo therapy and stem cell transplant was a success!! Yeah!! Now that Bill is out of the hospital, Kaitlyn can finally go visit him in Houston and meet her uncle and snuggle with her grandma again! We plan on going to Houston over 4th of July weekend - so that will be Kaitlyn's first airplane experience! We can't wait!! Below is a picture of Kaitlyn thanking God for Bill's success!!

We had many big adventures this last 2 weeks! First, Auntie Dorothy came to visit from Ireland!! YEAH!! Kaitlyn, Dorothy and I had such a wonderful week while she was here - we just hung out and visited, lots of snuggling with her Auntie!

Then Kaitlyn took her first road trip up to the Chicago North suburbs! Dorothy came with us as she flew out of O'Hare. So Dorothy, Kaitlyn, Sammy (our German Shepard) and I packed up the car and headed up north. It was quite a sight! :) We had a fun trip though and stopped to visit Auntie Elizabeth at Monarch (a great flower and furniture store in Northern Indiana). Kaitlyn was SO SO good the entire trip - she just slept the entire time, woke up to eat in Northern Indiana and then went back to sleep for the rest of the trip. We arrived at the Nagy's and had such a wonderful weekend. Kaitlyn has a beautiful nursery up at her grandparent's home (I will need to post a picture of it!) She loved her crib and giraffe mobile! Kaitlyn got to meet her Auntie Chris, Uncle Brent and her 2 fabulous cousins Emma and Reagon. They were visiting from Portland! She also got me meet a lot of Ryan's family - his Papa and aunts/uncles cousins as the Nagy's had a lovely BBQ for everyone to meet up! After the BBQ, Kaitlyn and I headed to O'Hare to drop of Auntie Dorothy (SAD!) and then went into downtown Chicago to visit Auntie Susie (Yeah!). Susie is my best friend from high-school and just had a little girl - Ava Arnold. Kaitlyn and Ava are destined to be best friends like their mommies!!

Although we had so much fun on our trip up north, we were all so excited to drive home to see Daddy on Sunday night! He was so excited to see us as well!!
Then on Thursday, we had a special visit from my best friend from college Janelle and her adorable little girl, Riley!! We had SO much fun seeing them - Janelle just relocated from Connecticut to Cincinnati, so we are so happy that we will see each other much more often now - it is only a 2 hour drive!Unfortunately, we did not take any pictures - So silly!! We will take some during our next play date next week as Kaitlyn and I are going to visit!
This past weekend, we had a visit from Grandpa and Grandma Nagy - as usual we all had so much fun - especially little Kaitlyn! Uncle Mike and his puppy Jack stopped by too which is always fun!
Yesterday, Kaitlyn and I met my good friend Minju for coffee at Starbucks - we had so much fun catching up! I am so happy Minju has moved back to Indianapolis from NYC!!
My dad retrned from 2 weeks in Houston on Sunday so we are all so happy to have him home! We have dinner together everynight and Kaitlyn always greets him with a big smile - she missed him a lot!!
It has been a busy couple of weeks and Kaitlyn has started to meet lots of special people in her life! We have some more fun dates planned in the upcoming week - and mommy is going to join Stroller Strides in Carmel so that I can start to get back in shape and meet some more new mom's as well! I already have so many mom's and good friends though that I am excited to start hanging out with more now that life is returning to normal!! :)

Happy Six week Birthday Kaitlyn!!

Can you believe it?!? I certainly can not! I think this has been the fastest 6 weeks of my life! I had my 6 week postpartum appointment on Tuesday and the doctor says Kaitlyn and I are doing very well - Yeah :)

There is so much to write about, I don't know where to begin. The first 3 weeks of Kaitlyn's life are pretty much a blur - really it was just about survival for both mom and Kaitlyn!! However, each passing day, Kaitlyn, Dad and I are becoming best buddies and are having more and more fun as we get to know each other! Of course we miss Ryan dreadfully when he goes to work each day, but Kaitlyn and I have a lot of fun! We have some fun routines that make our day go by so quickly - sometimes too quickly!

Usually Kaitlyn wakes up hungry around 6:30am - so I feed her and then bring her back into the bed with me. We go back to sleep together until about 9:30ish when Kaitlyn is hungry again! So I feed her again and put on her little outfit for the day - it is so much fun picking out her little outfit! I try to get dressed as well during this time (emphasis on TRY!!) - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't! But Kaitlyn usually lays on our bed for 10 - 15 minutes after eating and coos and entertains herself - so I have some time to put on clothes, some make-up and brush my hair!

Then we head downstairs with Sammy, the dog, and let her out to the bathroom. Kaitlyn loves being outside - she loves listening to the birds chirp and looking at the trees and flowers in our garden. After our outside adventure we walk through the house and open up all the blinds! I think this is my favorite part of the morning as I hate a dark house!!! Mommy attempts to make a cup of tea - not always possible though! Then Kaitlyn and I play in her gym - she loves kicking her little lets and swinging at the hanging toys! She spends some time on her tummy as well so that we can work on her little neck and arm muscles. She is doing so well - she can pretty much hold her head up now for a few minutes - it is a little wobbly at times, but she is doing great! She has also turned over 5 times now!! I think they were more accidental than deliberate, but still it is impressive! She has been swinging her arms so hard that she pushes herself over - it is quite a shock for her when it happens!

After morning playtime, she takes a nap again and then eats when she wakes up. Usually she falls asleep in my arms - so I spend this time on the computer or reading or catching up with my mom and Bill in Houston! Sometimes, I successfully place her in her pack and play and then can spend some time doing laundry, finish getting dressed or doing other things around the house.

When she wakes up, Mommy and Kaitlyn go on a little outing. I try to do one outing a day with her - mostly for my sanity!! - but it is also good for Kaitlyn to get exposure! Sometimes we go to Target, or I will read the newspaper at Starbucks. We also love going to Whole Foods and walking around - picking up some nice food for dinner that night (Ryan loves when we do this!). Sometimes, I simply just go to the post office to mail a letter - whatever it is, I try to get out of the house!

Kaitlyn is usually sleeping when I get home from our outing - she loves falling asleep in the car. So I usually let her sleep for a while when we get home as I get SO much done around the house during this time! It is great :) Then she will wake up and eat again and we will do another little activity - either read a book, take a bath, swing in her swing or take Sammy for a walk (I carry Kaitlyn in one of those carriers that I strap to my stomach - she loves it!). Then she takes another nap in my arms - so I use the computer or phone again!

On nights Ryan is NOT on call (which we love!), he is home by 6:00ish. He always has to shower when he gets home to wash the operating room off of him, so Kaitlyn and I will go up and wash her hair while Daddy showers (unless she has had a bath earlier). She has a little bit of cradle cap so we have been washing her hair every day which she loves - she loves getting her head massaged!!

Then Daddy gives her her evening feeding via a bottle - Kaitlyn is doing so well with a bottle and with breastfeeding - no confusion at all- just complete enthusiasm about eating! :)

To be continued....

How did we find out pregnant with Sweet Baby Nagy?

As we wait for our little one to come, I thought it would be nice to document some of the important stories that brought upon her life so that she can come back and read through them as she gets older. Of course with how quickly technology changes these days, I am sure my blog website will be ancient by then - but hopefully I can print out these entries and keep them in a binder for her before technology changes too much!

Ryan and I were in Seattle, WA when we found out the wonderful news that we were pregnant.
We had travelled out west for Ryan's brother, Brent and his wife, Chris' wedding Portland which was held on September 6th. Because Ryan had a whole week of (he has to take his vacation in 1 week blocks), we decided to make the most of it! We flew into Portland August 30th, rented a car and drove up to Vancouver, British Columbia. We spent 3 wonderful nights there - it is truly an amazing city! On our last night in Vancouver, Ryan and I went to a wonderful dinner at the Blue Water Cafe. We sat outsides, enjoyed fresh crab and other seafood and a lovely bottle of wine - Little did I know that would be the last glass of wine I would have for 9+ months!! :)

We then drove to Seattle the next day, and I was starting to get suspicious that I might be pregnant (a woman's instinct!). That evening, we went to have appetizers at a nice restaurant overlooking the Puget Sound (waterfront in Seattle). I decided to refrain from any wine - just in case!! We then walked to a drugstore in Seattle to buy a pregnancy test. We were giggling like 2 school children and felt like 2 lost fish in a big pond!

Going to bed was strange that evening as I knew I would be taking the pregnancy test the next morning. I crept out of bed the next morning (Wednesday, September 3rd) and excitedly took the test. Waiting the few minutes for the test to complete seemed to take forever - but the first one came out positive! I took another one, just to be sure - positive again. Then I took a 3rd - just to be VERY sure - positive again! I ran out to the bed with a big smile on my face to tell Ryan we were pregnant! He was obviously shocked (had just woken up!) and we were both sitting there looking at each other - there really was nothing to say - the excitement was written all over our faces! That changed our trip a little - no more glasses of wine for me!

That evening after an early dinner, we walked around Seattle wondering what to do. What do pregnant couples do? Should we go to a bookstore or go to a coffee shop? We were walking by a theatre and saw a huge crowd of people lining up to go to a performance - it turned out Shrek was in town! I convinced Ryan that we should go check it out (he is very weary of musicals - but I love them!) - so we walked over to the ticket office to see if there were any tickets left. We were waiting in line when a young gentlemen came up to us and asked us if we were interested in seeing Shrek - we said yes and that we were hoping to buy tickets! It turns out he works for some sort of marketing/promotional firm and had 2 extra tickets. He had gotten 6 complementary tickets and was only using 4 of them. Talk about luck! So we ended up going to see Shrek that evening - and it was truly amazing! Ryan and I both LOVED it! He had not realized that Broadway musicals were so good!

We drove to Portland, Oregon the next day to start the wedding festivities! What a wonderful wedding weekend it was - complete with a trip to a winery (see picture above), cocktail receptions, the rehearsal dinner and the beautiful wedding day itself! I was doing my best to avoid alcohol without looking suspicious - I volunteered to be the designated driver to the winery - I was "too tired" to go out to the bar one of the nights! Ryan and I didn't' want to raise any red flags as this weekend was for Brent and Chris. The day of the wedding, I carried around a ginger ale with a lime and tried my hardest to keep with the dancing and festivities (with no alcohol!). We truly had a glorious time and were successful in keeping the pregnancy quiet! Only Ryan's sister, Elizabeth, noticed I was drinking a little less and asked us both if I was pregnant. We both had to lie to keep the secret (sorry Elizabeth!).

We headed home to Indianapolis after an wonderful and relaxing trip out west - what a wonderful way to find out we are pregnant - it was so special! The following weekend we shared the wonderful news with both sets of parents. I had two little onsies made to share the good news with them. For my parents, I had "I love Marme and Grandpa Deane" printed on it with lots of little shamrocks around it (my mom is known as Marme by her other grand kids). For Ryan's parents I had, "I can't wait for my first Bears game with Grandma and Grandpa Nagy" printed on it with little footballs underneath. They were so cute and I can't wait to dress her up in them. Obviously the grandparents were thrilled. We also told our siblings that weekend too which was great. We waited to tell others until I was a little further a long in the pregnancy.

It is hard to believe that 8 1/2 months later we are counting down the days until we get to meet our sweet baby Nagy and hold her. Ever since my last doctor's appointment on Tuesday, I find myself going to bed and waking up wondering - "Will today be the day?"

So far I have not had any more major contractions - definitely some other signs that my body is getting ready to deliver, but nothing to rush to the hospital for. Can't wait to share good news with you all!!

She might get here sooner than later! :)

On Monday, I had my first few official contractions! I had 3 small contractions that were 4 hours apart and each lasted about 10 seconds. My doctor's appointment was on Tuesday and I went with my mom. When I told him about the contractions, he decided to check my cervix and it measured 3 centimeters and I was 70% effaced! So it seems like I might be on my way pretty soon :) I have not had any contractions since then, but I do feel the little girl moving around a lot! I will keep you posted - would love to have this little girl in the next few days as she is full term and ready to go (and so am I!!)

Last night, I went and got my hair highlighted - I had been avoiding my hairdresser the entire pregnancy as I just did not want to take any risks! I had gone to the Aveda salon here in Indy to get highlights for my cousin's wedding (I could NOT have roots for that) as there products are 99.5% natural. But the highlights just are not as good as my normal hair dresser. So last night, I went and got all of my blond highlights back and I feel wonderful! My hair will look nice for the pictures! :)

Tonight Ryan is on call (so baby Nagy is NOT allowed to come tonight!) and I am doing some last minute preparations. My hospital bag is all packed and ready to go! I also did some last minute washing to get ready for our angel and have washed/packed a few outfits for her (she has to have options!). I have also been introducing the dog's to her swing set (I have had a stuffed elephant swinging in it this evening) - I feel crazy but I have been going over and talking to the elephant and picking it up -just so the dog's get used to me holding something. I have her car seat all ready to go as well - Ryan will have to install it in the car in the next day or so. I ordered lots of movies from Netflix (Thanks Bill for letting me use your account!) - they are all romantic comedies - so I should be entertained in the hospital.

I am getting VERY excited (no longer traumatized by the video that I saw in the birthing class we attended) to meet our little princess. I hope to have good news this weekend (fingers crossed!).

Last few weeks and lots of date nights!

I went to the doctor on Tuesday last week and baby and mom are doing really well! I was able to hear the baby's heart beat (which is so strong these days) and my tummy measured exactly 36 cm which is where I should be at 36 weeks. Monday will be the start of my 37th week - can you believe?

The major piece of advice my sweet doctor gave me was to treasure these last few weeks with Ryan and to go on many dates! When I told Ryan this, we both thought about it and agree it is strange to imagine that it will no longer be the 2 of us and our dogs in our little family any more. I can't verbalize how excited we are to welcome baby Nagy to our family, but we are taking the doctor's advice and going on lots of dates (especially since the weather has been so beautiful here in Indy). Last week, we went on 3 alone - :) Of course, our dates are slightly different these days - no dancing, no wine, no late nights, no 3 inch heels (flats are my new best friends these days!), no last minute fake tan cream applications (Dorothy knows about these!) or blond highlights and my figure has definitely "rounded" out these days (literally!) - all the same, we are making the most of these last few weeks together (Despite Ryan's very intense on-call schedule this month!). Last night we went to Ambrosia's, an Italian restaurant in Broad Ripple, sat out side, enjoyed the beautiful evening and talked the evening away - it was very relaxing. I keep reminding Ryan to enjoy his last few weeks of having a 100% designated driver because I am so excited to have my first glass of wine! Of course I will be nursing, so that will limit my intake - but every now and then I will indulge!!

I smile now as I think back on our early dating days in Chicago - I remember doing everything possible to make the night last just a little bit longer - especially since we only saw each other on the weekends while he was living in Indy - we would go to dinner, then go for an after dinner drink, then I would always want to stay out as long as possible - even hit up some of the late night music joints that stay open until 5:00am. He has since told me that he sometimes was worried about how late I wanted to stay out - he is 3 years older than me so had gotten that out of his system already...but he hung in there with me!! I remember when I met his brother Mike out late one night, he commented on how Ryan must really like me if he is staying out late! I laugh now as we already treasure our 9:30/10:00 bed times - 11:00 on weekends! We are both on the same page with bed time now!

It's funny, as I sit here typing in my office at 5:30am on a Friday night/Saturday morning (I can't seem to sleep) - I think how things have changed from late nights at the Red Headed Piano Bar in Chicago (I would just be getting home now!) I am sure they are only going to change even more as we welcome our little princess into the world - at that point, will there even be a bed time?? The wonderful news is that all of these changes have been for the better - and we eagerly welcome this next big change!!

Belly Profile Shot at 36 weeks, 2 days!

So there have been some requests for an official profile belly shot. Here you go - I was not kidding when I told you my tummy is HUGE - I look so funny and out of proportion! I think my tummy is so large because I am so short (5'1) and there is no where else for the baby to grow - she is very snug in there!! Are there any other short (should I say petite!) ladies out there that had HUGE tummies like me when they were pregnant? On ther other hand, Ryan is 6'2 so we could have a future WNBA basketball star in there - we will have to wait and see! :)

Practice makes perfect...

Well we sure hope so! Ryan and I were able to observe parenting skills this past weekend with our niece and nephew! Liam is 18 months and Sophia is only 4 weeks old. They are so cute! See picture of Ryan practicing how to hold a new born baby - and me beside him also trying to learn. There was a cute moment when I was holding baby Sophia on my tummy, and our sweet little baby Nagy starting kicking away! I think she was trying to say hi to her cousin - after all they will only be a few weeks apart in age! We did manage to avoid the diaper changing classes though - guess we will have to wing it :)

28 more days to go?!? Where did time go??

Hi Everyone! So as you know, I have taken a little hiatus from working on my baby blog (sorry Baby Nagy!) and have been focusing on my brother Bill's blog. I clicked on the link this morning and saw that on my count down, I have 28 more days to go! I haven't looked at the count down in almost 2+ months, so it was quite a shock to see how far it has moved!!

I am officially starting my 36th week today and I am SO excited and ready to meet our little princess! Yesterday, we worked on the nursery and almost have it finished. It is absolutely adorable and I can't wait to have a little baby to put in the crib. We still have some pictures to hang up and move (note the ones above the crib!) and I want to hang up her name in blocks once we pick a name! They baby still does not have a name!! It is so hard to choose one before we meet her - so will try to narrow it down to 2-3 names these next few weeks so that we can have something to start with at least! Regardless of her name, Ryan is already making sure she is a Chicago Bear's fan :)

I am attaching a picture of me too - from last weekend when we celebrated Ryan's birthday . As you can see, my tummy is HUGE these days!! Since I am so short, there really isn't very much room for her to grow - so she is quite snug and cozy in my tummy! Let's just say, I am eager to meet the little girl and get back to my normal physique! I am finding it hard to move around a lot these days (although I still manage fine!) - it is just a little more awkward to do things (ie. feeding dogs, bending to pick something up, getting comfortable on the couch..). Thankfully, I have been able to sleep though at night. I get up often to go to the bathroom (hourly at this point!), but I am so fortunate that I can fall back to sleep.

At 36 weeks, the baby supposedly weighs around 6 lbs and is 18.5 inches (see picture of Melon below - that is how big she is - no WONDER my tummy is huge!). She is going to be gaining more weight over the next few weeks. I have a doctor's appt. tomorrow (the first of my weekly appointments) so will ask the doctor how big she things our baby Nagy is.

Our dog's are also getting ready (suspicious) for this new little baby. They are smelling all of the new clothes, wondering who the lovely nursery is for, wondering why their mommy can't get down on the floor for snuggle sessions as often any more and why mommy can only take them for very short walks! Ryan and I are trying to prepare them both for the baby, but I think we will have to wait until she arrives to see if they are going to be okay with the new addition to our family - we are praying that they will be so that we don't have to return our adopted dog's to our parents!! (If you remember we dog-napped Reggie from my parents and Sam from Ryan's parents).

Since I last wrote, I had 2 absolutely beautiful baby showers as well! I received so many wonderful and useful gifts that I can't wait to use. Mrs. Nagy, Elizabeth Nagy and Chris Nagy hosted a shower for me in Northern Indiana and Mrs. Kirlin, Susie and Mrs. Esterline hosted a shower for me in Indianapolis. It was so wonderful to see all of our family and friends at the showers! I have a couple of pictures that I will post up as well in a separate blog.

Well that is my update for now - there is so much more for me to share and I will start to update this blog much more regularly! I can't wait till the day she arrives and I can start sharing pictures of her with you all! :)

Help Needed - Do you have any advice on baby items?

Hello Mom's, mother's to be's and anyone who is around babies a lot! I went to Babys R'Us today with my mom and was a little overwhelmed by all the baby stuff! I know many of you probably have some great advice for us mother to be's - so please share!

Today is the start of my 24th week which is so hard to believe - I feel like time is starting to move a lot more quickly now! Ryan and I still have not picked out a name for the little girl - we have tossed out a few ideas but nothing is confirmed. We are not going to tell anyone the name (good idea Susie!) because it is a little piece of information we can share together until the little one comes a long - our little secret!

We are heading on our "babymoon" this week - to St. George's Island, Florida - and are so excited. I will be working from Florida, but Ryan has the entire week off which is so nice for him. We are bring our dog Sam and heading out on Friday evening. It is a 13 hour drive, so we will do some of it Friday night, probably spend the night in Nashville and then finish the drive Saturday morning. I can't wait to wake up and see and smell the ocean, go for long walks on the beach and eat grouper sandwiches at the Blue Parrot (a cute island bar with wonderful grouper!). Hopefully we will both come back refreshed and relaxed from our babymoon!

Look forward to hearing from you all!

Quick Baby Update

Just wanted to check in and let everyone know the baby is doing really well! We had a chance to listen to the heartbeat at our doctor's appt. (that sound is so beautiful - I wish I could share a sound bite!). It was so nice to have Ryan at the doctor's office with me as well - he has heard so many heart beats during his residency, but was so touched to hear his own little baby girls heart beat!

Other news - Ryan and I went to get my mom and dad at the airport on Saturday night. We are thrilled to have them home! They were absolutely exhausted on Saturday after flight delays and the time zone change, so last night they came over for some pizza and we hooked up my mom's camera to our tv and looked at their pictures (1115 pictures - can you imagine?) They were beautiful - India is very different from Indianapolis :)

We still have our Christmas decorations up although I know we need to take them down. I absolutely hate taking the Christmas tree down - the house always looks so empty without it and I miss how cozy the room looks with the Christmas lights on! Well, I guess that is our project for next weekend :(

I will be in touch soon. The little girl is still kicking away - I actually saw my tummy move today after I had done my exercises - I think she likes doing lunges and squats - yeah right!

Katherine

Doctor's Appointment Tomorrow!

Well I have another week doctor's appointment tomorrow (Monday is the start of my 23rd week) - Unbelievable! I am so excited because Ryan can FINALLY come to an appointment with me! This will be his first - unfortunately he is on call tonight in the ICU (intensive care unit) - so will probably be very tired at the appt. tomorrow, but nonetheless, he will be there! He will get to meet one of the 5 doctors that will deliver the baby (they take turns being on call, so you really don't know who you will have at the delivery) and most importantly he will get to hear the little heart!

I have gotten a lot of emails asking me how I am feeling and how the pregnancy is going (thanks for the emails and comments on the blog - I love getting them!) - so I am going to take a blog entry to give you a quick update :)

Everything is going really well - I feel fine almost 100% of the time. Every now and then I get a small leg cramp, or my lower back starts to hurt - but overall, things are great. There have been a few nights where I have a hard time getting comfortable or falling asleep or been up emailing at 3:00 in the morning, but nothing to really complain about. I have been doing my "pregnant work out videos" a few times a week which are keeping me positive and helping my energy. Ryan and I treated ourselves to a treadmill for Christmas, so I am going to start walking on that (at a slow pace!) a few times a week too. We set it up on Tuesday evening and Ryan broke it in last night with a run!! (I was very impressed!)

I don't really have too many cravings - which I am thinking is a good thing. I love eating fruit, so find myself snacking on oranges, grapes, berries and apples all the time - thankfully fruit is healthy! I also am eating more meat than usual (most of you know I was vegetarian for 12 years!). Last weekend Ryan and I went out to breakfast. Usually I get scrambled eggs, toast and substitute the meat for a side of fruit. Well for the first time I can remember, I actually ordered the baked ham with my breakfast and it tasted wonderful! Other than an increase in fruit and meat consumption, I am just eating pretty normally. Of course I give into any little chocolate or ice cream cravings that I have too :)

Someone asked me if I have been feeling baby movements/kicks yet - and YES I have! It is a wonderful feeling to have a little baby moving inside of me. Initially it was a little weird (Ryan still gets weirded out by it), but I have grown to love this feeling. I actually miss it when I don't feel her for a while. She usually moves the most at night time when I am going to bed and then in the morning as well. She is pretty quiet during the day - or maybe I am just busier so notice it less. Last night, Ryan told me that he felt the movement across the bed and it woke him up (I didn't wake up at all!) She started moving about 3 weeks ago, so my cousins in Ireland were able to fill little movements which was so cool - but the movements are definitely getting stronger now!

I have had some fun shopping for cute maternity clothes - it makes me feel much better about my growing waistline when I have some cute outfits to wear! Target Maternity and Maternity Motherhood have had some fun filled visits from me these last couple of months.

All in all, I think I am blessed to be having such a great pregnancy - I have nothing to complain about and have SO much to look forward to - it is so hard to believe that in 4 months, Ryan and I will have a little baby girl in our life. I am so unbelievably excited!

Mom and Dad Nagy come to visit!

On the 26th of December Ryan's parents came to stay with us for a few days! They came with all sort of goodies and baked goods for Ryan and I and the dogs! We also got the most beautiful clothes for our sweet baby nagy - a beautiful pink cardigan and matching hat, and a beautiful long sleeve onesie (with little booties, a matching hat and a little blanket!). Elizabeth sent baby Nagy her first denim skirt which will look so adorable on her! Kim and I started to put together the nursery as well - well at least brainstorming where things will go etc. This is all so exciting and I know we have lots of fun over the next few month preparing for the little one!
We were so excited to see family and had a great time. A couple of the pictures are of us at Brugge Brasserie in Broad Ripple where we went to dinner one of the nights. The other is a picture of Ryan and I by our Christmas tree with our 2 dogs and the little one in my tummy! The below is Ryan's brother Mike and his dad at breakfast. Thanks Mom and Day Nagy for visiting us in Indy - we had so much fun and miss you!

Deane Family Travels to India!

As some of you know, my parents and brother Bill travelled to India this Christmas for the wedding of a family friend's son. Their trip sounds absolutely amazing and I wanted to share some of the pictures my dad has sent to me via his blackberry. I can't wait until they get home as Indianapolis is very lonely without my parents down the street! :)

Home with Ryan for Christmas - Finally!! :)

Although I had such a wonderful trip to London and Paris, I missed Ryan so much! I got back to Indianapolis on December 23rd - just in time for Christmas! I was so lucky that my flights didn't get cancelled as majority of the flights at O'Hare were cancelled that night. I made it home though - unfortunately Ryan was on call at the hospital that night - so I didn't see him until the next morning. He had 2 beautiful poinsettia plants and a card waiting for me when I got home which made my night after a long day or travelling! I was greeted by my sweet little doggies who I was so excited to see as well - they missed their mom! It seems Ryan missed me a lot too - he missed his dinners at night and a fridge full of his favorite goodies :)
Luckily Ryan came home the morning of the 24th and didn't have to go in until the 26th - we we were able to spend Christmas together! It was just the 2 of us, so it was quiet, but we had a wonderful time. We are both used to big Christmas celebrations with our families - so it was definitely different. We realized this was probably the last Christmas we will ever have together alone again - so really enjoyed the peace and quiet - and had a ton of fun!

On the 24th, we went shopping for our Christmas Eve dinner and our Christmas Day dinner! We went to the butcher to get a Turkey and they only had a 14-16 lb turkey left - so we bought it! After all, what is Christmas without a Turkey - and cooking this turkey together on Christmas day was the funniest thing ever - as neither of us had cooked a turkey on our own before! So first step is to rinse the turkey and take the organs out (I refused to do this - being vegetarian the last 12 years of my life, and only now starting to eat white meat, it seemed too sudden to de-organ a turkey!) So after searching for a few minutes, Ryan declared that there were no organs in this turkey, that we were all set. This seemed a little odd to me as I always remember there being organs in ever other turkey I have seen cooked. So we called Mom Nagy to see what the deal was - she assured us that there WAS organs in the turkey and we needed to remove the. We had her on speaker phone and spent almost 15 minutes looking for the organs - Ryan refused to believe there were any in there (this was a special turkey)

So he looked...(yes those are yellow rubber gloves he is wearing!)

and he looked...

and he looked

and finally after rinsing the turkey with water multiple times, we were able to look into the neck and found the sack with the organs! Success!!

We were dying laughing by the end of it (as were the Nagy's on speaker phone and Ryan's sister Elizabeth who was there too...). Anyway, after flavoring and cooking the turkey, it ended up tasting wonderful (although it was WAY too much for us to eat!) The dog's received some special Christmas turkey too and were very happy with themselves! We ended up having a really nice Christmas dinner together. Ryan's brother Mike stopped by that evening on his way to work (he works at the Indianapolis Sheriff Department and was on duty that night...) for some Christmas dinner as well.

Hope you all had a wonderful and happy Christmas!!!
Love,
Katherine XOXO
